Falcons Lose Heart-breaker at Ave Maria
AVE MARIA, Fla. - The Florida College Falcons lost on a buzzer beater to Ave Maria University on Tuesday night, 82-80.
Leo Behrend launched a fadeaway fifteen footer with a hand in his face as time expired and it was nothing but net. Behrend made tough shots all night, none bigger than the last one. He finished with 28 for the Gyrenes. The Falcons were led by a duo of junior newcomers. Stefan Nakic-Vojnovic and Andrew Voss both had 18 points to lead FC. Kent Hegarty added 11 in the loss.
The Falcons had a 10 point halftime lead and stretched it to 16 in the second half.
They led by 13 with nine minutes left, and by 9 with four minutes remaining.
The Gyrenes led briefly early in the first half but did not lead again until the buzzer sounded as Behrend's shot went through the net.
FC's last bucket came with two minutes remaining on an Austin Mills three-pointer. It gave FC an 80-75 lead. The Gyrenes would go on to score the last seven points of the contest.
FC had its lowest amount of turnovers on the season with 14. They also shot the best percentage from three-point range in a game all season (44%). However, it wouldn't be enough to save them on Tuesday night.
The Falcons fall to 2-2 while the Gyrenes move to 3-0.
The Falcons return to Conn Gymnasium on Thursday as they host Trinity College (FL) at 7 PM.
Come support the Falcons as they look to get back on track!
