Falcons Split at Dalton State
DALTON, Ga. - The Florida College Falcons split a pair of road games at Dalton State this weekend.
Friday night the Falcons dropped a close one 74-62. The Falcons shot it poorly from the field at 38.7% and just 29% from three-point land. They also only attempted 4 free-throws in the contest. They were manhandled on the offensive glass by the Roadrunners. The home team also knocked down an uncharacteristic amount of threes at a high clip (9-of-19). Matt Simpson had 21 points and 9 rebounds. Ray Cao had 15 points and 5 rebounds. Jalon Perry added 12 points and 5 rebounds.
Saturday evening the Falcons responded, knocking off the Roadrunners 65-61. The Falcons trailed 25-21 at intermission. FC shot a putrid 23% from the field in the first half. The percentages would eventually even out as the Falcons rallied to score 44 points in the second half on 50% shooting and 45.5% from three. FC used an 11-3 mid-second half run to take the lead. Jalon Perry was responsible for 8 of those 11 points. Perry would go on to score a career-high 34 points in the win. He sunk the two free-throws that iced the game with 9.8 seconds left, putting the Falcons up 2 possessions. Perry made clutch basket after basket in the second half. Perry drew the bigger matchup from the Roadrunners and exploited it all night, picking up slack from the rest of the Falcons offensive attack. Perry was the only FC player in double figures in the low scoring affair.
"Extremely proud of the effort and execution tonight," stated head coach Chase Teichmann. "In the first half shots weren't falling but we were hanging our hat on the defensive end of the floor. We knew these guys really well and knew how important every detail and every possession were to get us the result we wanted. JP was unbelievable tonight. We wouldn't have even been in the game without him. I want to give our backcourt credit. They play a lot of minutes night in and night out. I wouldn't trade them for anyone else in the country at our level."
The win puts the Falcons at 14-12 on the season. The Falcons remain on the road with a game currently scheduled at Brescia University in Owensboro, Kentucky on Monday, February 15. They'll return home to take on Faulkner University on Friday and Saturday for homecoming and senior night!
