Lady Falcons Win First SSAC Game Against Roadrunners
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Florida College women's soccer team took the field Thursday night for their first-ever SSAC soccer match against the Dalton State College Road Runners. Dalton State and the Lady Falcons went back and forth in an intense first twenty minutes of the match. Kiara Romero received the best opportunity beating the goalkeeper, but was unable to tally a goal as one the Roadrunner defenders denied her shot. The Lady Falcons went into the half scoreless.
The second half produced more excitement. The Lady Falcons would open the scoring in the 51st minute stringing passes together allowing Kiara Romero to put away her next opportunity low and in the bottom left corner. The Lady Falcons contested against Dalton State's pressure and pushed a great defensive effort. Florida College would stay resilient through the half and not relinquish their lead but instead added another goal in the final seconds of the game. Mashell Rodriguez would take advantage of a last minute opportunity scoring off of a rebound to make the game 2-0 in the 90th minute helping secure the match for the Lady Falcons.
The Lady Falcons made history securing their first ever conference win in the Southern States Athletic Conference. The game could not have ended the way it did without the solid effort from the whole team and the defensive stronghold by the back line. Congrats to Tori Fullagar for receiving her first conference shut out. Come and join your men's and women's team this Saturday at Qualls Field as the Falcons take on their second conference opponents, the Faulkner Eagles. The women play at 11 AM and men play at 1 PM.
