TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The New College of Florida secured their first win in a redemption match against the Lady Falcons on Saturday.
Tensions were high between the Falcons and Banyans throughout the first half of the match after Florida College defeated New College the previous week. Both teams attempted at least five shots each in the first half, but neither could put a point on the board until the 57th minute. New College's Adriana Mateo-Lopez was able to force a goal unassisted to lead the game 1-0. In the 66th minute, Lady Falcon Paula Rincon Carillo was fed the ball from Victoria Fonseca to tie up the match and score her third goal of the season. Florida College fought hard to secure another goal, but could not put the ball into the net. In the 75th minute, Banyan Nicola Taylor scored the game winning goal for the Banyans with a long-range shot to push the Lady Falcons' record to 1-5-2 on the season.
Goalkeeper Gabi Peralta was named the Continental Athletic Conference Defender of the week after tallying nine saves on 11 shots on goal during Saturday's match. She recorded seven saves in the 4-3 win against New College earlier in the week for a grand total of 16 saves.
