TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - Head Coach Joanie Dilbeck has stepped down after five seasons with Florida College Women's Soccer.
Dilbeck took over the women's soccer program in 2019 and led the Lady Falcons to a 6-7-2 record in her first year as head coach. The team had a few hard years before bouncing back in the 2022-2023 season, where Dilbeck led the Lady Falcons to a 7-7-1 record. Florida College defeated Trinity Baptist College 12-1 in their second game of the year, resulting in Victoria Fonseca being named Florida College's first ever NAIA National Player of the Week after scoring five goals and contributing one assist in her second appearance as a Falcon. The program's second NAIA National Player of the Week came weeks later after the Lady Falcons took down Freed-Hardeman and Edward Waters, both in a 1-0 shutout. Goalkeeper Gabriella Peralta posted 11 total saves to earn the honor.
Dilbeck secured her first Continental Athletic Conference wins in the 2023-2024 season after taking down CAC foe Florida National University 6-2 and 5-1 after losing two close matches to the Conquistadors the previous season.
Throughout her time as head coach, Dilbeck had 12 conference players of the week, 15 conference all-academic honors, six all-conference honors, and two NAIA National Players of the Week.
Dilbeck also served as the NAIA Champions of Character Liaison and coordinated events for Florida College athletes to serve the community.
"I appreciate the opportunity that Florida College afforded me to coach here for the past five years. During my time as head coach I have made many memories that will stick with me for the rest of my life. I enjoyed interacting with and being around the players and building bonds that will last a lifetime as well as watching these young women develop both as soccer players and human beings," said Dilbeck. "I will definitely miss the time spent with my girls. Stepping away from collegiate coaching has become a necessity due to my health. I am looking forward to slowing down a bit and spending more time with my family. I am still, and will continue to be, an avid supporter of Florida College Athletics. Let's go Falcons!"
"We want to thank Coach Dilbeck for her five years of hard work and dedication to our athletic department while leading the women's soccer program. Her commitment to her players both on and off the field was unwavering during her time here. She will be missed greatly and a challenge to replace. We wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors," said Athletic Director Chase Teichmann.
